Bhutan is also a Buddhist Country and it's naturally beautiful. There are so many places in Bharat which are naturally beautiful. The problem with pollution in Bharat began many years ago, especially Rivers being polluted with plastic and other artificial crap. We used to treat our Sacred Rivers with a lot of respect for thousands of years.

The reason why millions of Indians leave India to settle in Christian countries is to get far away as possible from the dirt, filth noise and pollution

Cambodia is one of the biggest havens in the worild for under-age prostitution. The UN’s children’s rights committee estimates that one third of prostitutes in Cambodia is under 18 years old. Most of the tourists from the West who come to Cambodia are probably paedophiles or are coming for cheap prostitution opportunities. Cambodia's population is 16.6 million and receive 6.6 million tourists every year. This means annual tourist footfall in Cambodia is 40% of its population. Sri Lanka has 22 million people and receives 2-3 million people every year. That is still around 10-12%. Not surprisingly these countries have catered their local economies to encourage more visitors. This has nothing to do with being Theravada Buddhist. India got around 10 million foreign tourists per year pre-pandemic.Indian economy doesn't really depend on tourism so there is no need to keep cities clean just to attract tourists. just invest in solid waste management, sewage treatment, urban infrastructure etc.

Justin has the mindset of 90s. He thought that Indians are desperate to migrate to Europe and North America. No more....Indians mean business too..with social media assistance ( now a days) South Asians are fully aware of both social and economic climate of Canada. It is only among Gujratis( forced to canada, as second option, because USA is very tough thesedays) and Punjabis, the migration to the West is both a FASHION and SOCIAL COMPULSION.

Sri and AIM, my 2c/s on the ASML/China question. I have worked in ASML and to think that the Chinese skipped several generations/stages and straight went to EUV technology is a joke. Even the light source for the EUV required ASML to buy a company called Cyber in San Diego. The light source itself is insanely complicated system, forget all the EUV stage/reticle stage etc. I doubt the Chinese even can produce low double digit nm technology like ASML's old DUV systems. Also FYI, the EUV system design process started sometime around early 2000s and so it tool nearly 2 decades before they shipped their first system to TSMC. The Chinese cannot spring out of nowhere and produce the same tech so fast.

On the Q of the direction of causality between colonization and the Industrial Revolution, I am still not convinced by Abhijit's answer. The Spainards entered the Americas via the Caribbean in the 1490s. They were hungry for gold and from 1492 to 1532 went on a rampage primarily looting jewellery of the American natives. The plunder of the Aztec (1521) and the Inca treasury (1532) marked the highpoints of this plunder. The precious metal artífacts that were the object of this plunder took centuries to collect. This bonanza ran dry in the late 1530s and it is then that the actual mines, provenance of the precious metals were sought after. By this time, Native American populations were dying out due to Old World diseases. Zacateca in the erstwhile Aztec empire and Potosi in the Inca Empire started getting mined in the 1540s. The flow of precious metals from the Americas to Europe had now begun in full flow.
This triggered many interesting developments in Europe:
    (i) the potato was introduced to Europe; by calorific value and yield per acre it was a remarkable crop that boosted European heights and population sizes. The fact that it was a tuber helped serfs and tenant farmers to grow them in secret and avoid taxation unlike grain whose acreage and yield could be easily ascertained and taxed.
(ii) European ship-building entered a golden-age with much demand for master carpenters, blacksmiths, coopers, shipwright etc. Ship sizes went from being around 200 tons to 2000 tons on the Mexico to Manila pacific routes
(iii) the introduction of precious metals from the New World into Europe created a Price Revolution. There was a huge inflation in Europe. This is jointly caused due to the population increase in (i) and the inflow of species. There was a sudden kick of entrepreneurial activity in Europe. This directly laid the seeds of proto-industrialization

I beg to disagree about Google's valuation. They literally can put world back by 20 years if they want, by just turning of all their services, the access to the search engine data, the AI data they gather through search engines and in real world through street view and their autonomous cars, all are invaluable. And don't forget the Android OS that's running on most of world's population. Now, I admit, they are not as invincible as they used to be just 5 years ago, their services have competition from Amazon and Microsoft, their handheld has competition from Apple, Their AI system has OpenAI as competitor, and their Autonomous AI has competition from Tesla.. And they are beaten by almost all of them in the respective areas, but then if you combine all of them, which none of its competitors have, then Google has the world changing ability and is probably the most powerful single entity on planet earth.. I think that's one of the key factors of them having so high market value.

9:40 this is something that has intrigued me too and I think about it a lot all the time. But, here's some more datapoints if someone else have some convincing theories. There are 2 more groups of people within India who are not filthy, one is the people of North eastern descent(This excludes Assamese, Assam is just as filthy as NorthBengal, and I am from NorthBengal which is better than South Bengal in cleanliness), i am talking about Sikkim, Meghalaya, Arunachal etc. Coming back to my own case, i live in a twilight zone, which is Siliguri, so I see drastic differences in people's culture all the time. For example, people of my own district(Darjeeling), which is divided between Siliguri plains and the Darjeeling Hills, the difference is drastic, not just in level of cleanliness, but also the basic of sense of civility which shows primarily in how the traffic moves. Hill people are way more civil and clean. Now, the bigger cities of hills such as Darjeeling and now even Gangtok may not look as clean, because of human commercial exploitation, but if you move to the villages and small towns, they are neat and clean. Even the small towns and villages around Siliguri in the plains are so neat, clean and beautiful..I know of some very lesser known villages in the plains just 20-30 kms from Siliguri(which is pretty filthy in North Bengal standard), which are as beautiful, as scenic, as organized as Scottish villages. Now, coming back to my second point, the other group of people who also happens to have significant presence in Siliguri plains and surrounding North Bengal, because of forced migration done by the British for tea estates- The tribals. They are often under extreme poverty and some of the villages are almost primitive in nature and yet they are so clean, and people have much better civic sense than our urban elites. Also, I don't think it has anything to do with Religion at a macro level, because Nepal too is much much cleaner than India, yeah their roads get filthy during monsoon, but that's primarily due to their lack of infra and drainage, but otherwise people have basic sense of cleanliness.

As far as Sri Lanka is concerned, it is primarily a tourism based economy. They pride themselves as being the tourism hotspot darling of the western world. Therefore they make it a point to remain clean in order to remain attractive to the western world. The tourist hotspots are always speckle and crystal so that it remains a cynosure of western eyes. Other areas which are out of this gambit aren't much to speak about.

Concept of cleanliness in Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia.
    1. Theravada Buddhism in Southeast Asia is rooted in Ceylonese Buddhism that traveled from Sri Lanka to Burma and later to lower Thailand.
    2. Theravada Buddhism has 4 concepts of cleanliness to support spiritual path- thought, speech, action and body.
    3. The cleanliness of body extends to hygiene and surroundings.
    4. Therefore, it has percolated through the society over thousands of years.

The sociological reason for cleanliness is the social order maintained by the faith institutions both in Buddhist and Christian countries. Every Buddhist and Christian (especially in SE Asia) family is under the moral governance of a local faith institution. We lost that social and moral architecture in India. Nobody can tell us what to do, especially what not to do!! Muslims are, to some extent, also governed by the local mosque, but the teaching they get from the mosques doesn't include topics like sanitation, public health, etc. You know what they tell them there!!!

Partially correct.. Remember that Buddhists fled Indian sub continent after the Islamic invasions. Christian nations were never fully invaded by the Islamic's but after forced Christianisation of Europe, Europeans became damn dirty and personal hygiene was almost in existent!!
As for India, the bitter impoverishment, exploitation & cultural devastation that Hindus suffered at the hands of the Muslims & then the Europeans/Christians is the major reason for unhygienic conditions & dirt!!

Sree Iyer why don't you call Hari Mohan IAS for a chat? He is one of those with crimping knowledge of present day politics. I look forward for a YpuTube session with him.

Maldives is much smaller than Nepal or Sri Lanka and should be treated with a much more strict policy. Its a tiny island of 300 sq kms, the size of a smaller town like Gulbarga. The population is only half a million which is less than 0.1 percent of India. And that island is going to be consumed by the ocean in a few decades, & unliveable by 2050. Considering these facts India should be turning the scr3ws on Maldives rather that have them dictating our policy.

AIR has no clue about TN politics. KA talked highly about Muthuramalinga Thevar when he was talking about Anna issue. Muthuramalinga Thevar will fetch more votes than Anna. Why do you think DMK was silent when this issue happened? They don’t want to antagonize Thevar votes. And he is saying no traction for En Mann yatra? One of the reason ADMK wants to leave BJP is his gaining popularity in Kongu area. Iam from Kongu and never seen a crowd like this. Talk about macro stuff dude and leave TN politics out. You have no freaking idea

Abhijit should mean his words and hold his tongue. He can be proud about naming himself bitch but he should learn not be that before everyone. He called India beggar, filth etc. Disgusting. India never begged from anyone but others had lived off India and it’s richness. But for this “bitchering”, his understanding of concepts is good. Another example of a good mind and sick tongue.

*IT IS INTERESTING TO SEE THE MEMORANDUM OF BRITISH GOVERNMENT ON 02 SEPTEMBER 1938, THROUGH WHICH MOHANDAS KARAMCHAND GANDHI BECAME MAHATMA GANDHI OFFICIALLY. AND WE WERE MADE TO THINK THAT THE PUBLIC GAVE HIM THE TITLE. 😂*

Just curious, can Canada not be ok with 40 people less with no diplomatic immunity and keep it only for the most critical and keep the rest (or atleast part of them) engaged as consular staff with less immunity.

    • @chaitanyag.8415
      @chaitanyag.8415 Год назад

India is seeking parity. For now, it’s focusing on diplomats, later on It will focus on all consulate staff. It will be difficult for Canada to give tourists/business/student visa with limited staff. Canadian economy will suffer with this.
India can manage with limited staff because very less people are coming to India from Canada.

Abhijit’s comment that Sri Lanka is a Buddhist country is not entirely correct. There is a significant Hindu community. 7% are Christians and a significant Muslim community also exists.
